Focus on “Empress Elisabeth” The new film ‘Corsage’ by Empress Elisabeth of Austria has released a new trailer, which also announces that the film will represent Austria in the competition for Best International Film at this year’s Academy Awards.
Vicky Krieps (‘Phantom Thread’) plays Empress Elisabeth, about a woman adored for her beauty and known for inspiring fashion trends.
But in 1877, Elisabeth celebrated her 40th birthday and had to maintain her public image by lacing her corset tighter and tighter.
Elisabeth’s role runs counter to her intentions and is reduced to a purely performative one, her thirst for knowledge and her passion for life making her increasingly restless in Vienna.
Elisabeth then travels to England and Bavaria to visit old lovers and old friends, seeking the excitement and purpose of her youth.
With the future of strict etiquette duties before her, Elisabeth begins to rebel against her greatly exaggerated image and comes up with a plan to protect her legacy.
‘Corsage’ is directed by Marie Kreutzer (‘Das Fräulein’ ‘The Ground Beneath Her Feet’), and Northern America is set for release on December 23 this year.
