The classic side-scrolling action game “Streets of Rage” has recently been revealed to be adapted into a movie. After the success of “Sonic the Hedgehog”, major film studios have also begun to target the game IP, and “Streets of Rage” has also become one of the One is currently in preparation.
According to media reports, Derek Kolstad, the screenwriter of the “John Wick” trilogy, is currently writing the script for “Streets of Rage”.
Originally released in 1991 on the Sega Genesis and followed by several sequels, “Streets of Rage” tells the story of two former police officers taking to the streets to fight a vicious criminal syndicate.
The works of the “Streets of Rage” series have successively landed on the Xbox One, PS4, and Switch platforms.
“Streets of Rage” is often considered a classic game among players of a certain age, so a big-screen movie adaptation by a successful action director was a natural choice.
“Streets of Rage” will be the latest game adaptation from DJ2 Entertainment, following the box-office hit “Sonic the Hedgehog 2,” which is also developing “It Takes Two.”
Derek Kolstad is also working on Just Watch Me, an upcoming heist movie starring Gerard Butler based on the best-selling novel by “Dexter” writer Jeff Lindsay.
While Kolstad is not involved, “John Wick: Chapter 4” and “John Wick: Chapter 5” are also in the works.
