The Hunger Games’ series director Francis Lawrence returns to direct, with Viola Davis as Dr. Volumnia Gaul, the chief game producer of the 10th Hunger Games, Josh Andrés Rivera as Sejanus Plinth, Snow’s close friend and mentor of the second district tribute. Hunter Schafer as Tigris-Snow, Snow’s cousin and confidant who guides him and advises him on all aspects of morality, etc., and Jason Schwartzman as Lucretius “Lucky,” the host of the 10th Hunger Games Flickerman, the ancestor of Caesar (Stanley Tucci) in the main story, and Peter Dinklage as Casca Highbottom, the president of the Academy, who sets the rules of the game and decides the fate of the participants.
‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ is adapted from the new book of the same name by original author Suzanne Collins and is set several years before Coriolanus Snow becomes the tyrant president of the Giving State. 18-year-old Snow is handsome and charming, and although his family is in decline and in a difficult situation, he sees A chance to change his fate: he is chosen to be a mentor for the 10th Hunger Games.
Snow is sent to mentor Lucy Gray Baird, a girl from the impoverished 12th district, who provocatively sings at the harvest ceremony to get everyone’s attention.
Thinking they can turn the tables in their favor, Snow unites their instinctive showmanship with their newfound political skills in a race against time in a game of survival that ultimately reveals who is the songbird and who is the snake.
The latest version of the script was written by Michael Lesslie (‘Macbeth’ ‘Assassin’s Creed’ ‘The Little Drummer Girl’), with Michael Arndt (‘Inside Out’ ‘Toy Story 3”Little Miss Sunshine’), and will be released in Northern America on November 17 next year.
