There are too many film reviews and videos about The Matrix. A general entry-level player like me can only write something to discuss with you.
Creators of The Matrix
Ever since “The Matrix” became popular, there has been an argument around us—whether the real world is reality.
“What is reality? How do you define “reality”? If you mean how you feel, what you smell and taste, and what you see, then “reality” is just an electronic signal that your brain understands.”
Since then, when it comes to topics such as red and blue pills, consciousness upload, code, matrix, awakening, AI control of humans, etc., anyone can say two things about one set after another.
The “Matrix” series of movies made us realize a problem that we had never thought of before the millennium: In addition to the real world, there is also the possibility that the virtual online world is “live”.
In addition to fighting monsters, aliens, and the future, humans can fight with robots in the future; they can also be manipulated in the network to fight various NPCs.
We all know that the director who created this series of films is the Wachowski sisters.
When they were brothers, their names were Larry and Andy, and they were two or three years apart.
In 1987, they dropped out of school and returned to Chicago. Larry became a carpenter and Andy became a painter.
The reason for dropping out Larry said: “I came to New York with a loan to go to school, but my teacher is at least smarter than me to be worthy of the loan, but they read less than half of my books.”
Outside of work, Larry began to create comic scripts for MarvelComics, yes, it was Marvel.
They watched Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey” together, which became an artistic enlightenment for the siblings.
My younger brother Andy later recalled that “something in my mind hit like this. “2001: A Space Odyssey” was one of the reasons I became a filmmaker.”
1999 was a special year, and Nostradamus’ doomsday prophecy was hyped up.
In the same year, the Wachowski brothers of The Matrix finally put their real debut “The Matrix” on the big screen.
It feels that humans are either going to die at the end of the day, or die from technology.
Of course, we are still alive.
At the 72nd Academy Awards, “The Matrix” also won four technical awards for best visual effects, best editing, best sound editing and best audio.
I watched “The Matrix” on DVD. I was too young at the time, and I was dazzled by the complicated elements in it.
At that time, I looked at the most acrobatics, science fiction, two-dimensional, oriental kungfu, as for philosophy and religion, I didn’t understand it at all.
But to choose the most impressive plot for “The Matrix”, many viewers must think of the classic “bullet time”.
The word “Bullet Time” is registered as a trademark by Warner Bros. Now bullet time has been widely used in the fields of film and television and games.
The Matrix Trilogy
Old rules, let’s review the first three parts first.
At the beginning of the 21st century, mankind invented artificial intelligence.
Under the cloak of prosperity and advancement, the biggest war in history broke out-artificial intelligence awakened its self-consciousness and gradually attacked humanity.
At that time, artificial intelligence needed solar energy to survive, so humans’ countermeasures were to block the sky and block the sun’s rays.
However, this measure did not work, AI put humans in a petri dish into an energy source.
In order to prevent human beings from resisting and to generate stable bioelectricity, AI takes over for everyone’s head and creates a virtual world “The Matrix”.
The people in “The Matrix” do their own things, have their own lives, and are unaware of it.
People who die in the virtual world will also be brain-dead in reality. The melted flesh of dead human beings will be melted and used as a nutrient to “feed” the baby.
In this way, most unknowing humans live in the virtual matrix world. A small part of human beings who are awakened live in the dark world of reality—Zion.
Except for movies, most of this information comes from supplementary animations in The Matrix.
Fully imagined the major clues in the film such as the birth of Matrix, the awakening of the machine, and the final battle with humans.
In the first part, Neo’s two identities, the “promising” company employee “Thomas Anderson” and the “savior” the rebels have been looking for.
Ingeniously, the director first portrays a normal but somewhat wrong world, and then leads the characters in the play to follow the questions to explore the truth.
Let Neo and the audience step out of the dream and come to the cruel real world.
Many years later, “Westworld” also has the same effect.
In reality, the captain of the human resistance organization Morpheus has been searching for the legendary savior in the matrix.
In this way, under the guidance of Trinity, a member of the Human Resistance Organization, Neo and Morpheus met.
Neo also returned to the real reality under the guidance of Morpheus-Zion.
The real full picture of Zion was revealed only in the second part, and the actual scenes of the first part are all on Morpheus’ ship.
When Neo woke up, he was rescued by acupuncture. The Wachowski sisters really love Chinese culture.
After a series of training and simulation, Neo started the real “savior” awakening.
In the movie, telephone booths are used to communicate the reality and the virtual world, because dial-up access was required to access the Internet in the 1990s.
At that time, the payment was doubled, one for the Internet and one for the telephone. People living in that era would understand immediately when they watched a movie.
There are two dangers facing the protagonist group-the real AI octopus robot and the agents in the virtual world.
Agent Smith is responsible for clearing the Zion rebels who entered the matrix and the awakened humans in the matrix.
I have to say that Smith was a very good actor. Later, he also played Red Skull in “Captain America 1.”
After the first defeat of Smith in the virtual world, Zion’s total population reached 250,000.
At this moment, the AI system dispatched an army of tens of thousands of electronic squids to attack Zion.
In this movie, Neo met the architect of The Matrix, and he told Neo that the savior was created by him and prophet.
Their purpose is to learn high-level emotions from humans, and they must be real human emotions in order to assist the development of the machine world.
The first generation of The Matrix is designed to be a world where there is no unevenness and no one has food and clothing.
But one of the characteristics of human beings is that they become rotten when they are comfortable, and the first generation of The Matrix failed.
And Neo is already the sixth-generation savior, but he added a slightly different element, which is “love.”
The architect gave Neo a choice: save Zionor and save his lover.
Neo chose to save Trinity, and the life of Zion, the only refuge of mankind, was hanging by a thread.
In the third part, Neo negotiates with the mechanical emperor, and he is responsible for defeating Smith who has become a virus and is desperately multiplying.
The Robot Emperor promised not to destroy Zion for the common benefit of humans and machines.
Both Neo and Trinity sacrificed themselves, and the AI world also allows those who want to leave The Matrix to be free, because the existence of humans will not pose a threat to him.
It’s just that they don’t know how long this peace will last.
“The Matrix Resurrections”
Entering the topic, the following involves a lot of spoilers.
First of all, “The Matrix Resurrections” is full of salute, salute yourself.
In addition, there are countless flashbacks in the film, in order to help the audience recall the content 20 years ago.
We still talk about it in detail, and probably tell a story, “The Matrix Resurrections” is still worth watching.
In order to facilitate the spoiler, we explain the story according to the original story, otherwise it will only be in the mist.
Immediately after “The Matrix 3”, the human world and the robot emperor reached a consensus and exchanged for a short-term peace.
But because of the energy involution, the machine world started a civil war.
Another force-[The Suits] gradually emerged, and they did not agree to any peace agreement.
After being elected as the leader of Zion, Morpheus refused to obey the new forces of the machine world.
He still insisted on believing that Neo could solve all this, Neo would continue to save mankind, and then Zion would still be destroyed.
As a result, Captain Niobe in the third part led the remnants of the human world to establish a new city-Io.
The humans of Io are different from the Zion in the past. They seek comfort and no longer want to resist, but there is still a small group of rebels that spare no effort to find a new savior.
And, after several wars, the composite of humans and some machine worlds has been living in peace, even becoming pets.
At the same time, the analyst in the new force Suits reactivated Neo’s source code. Then he changed his appearance and hid him.
The Matrix was suspended in the past, and the analyst established a brand new virtual world. In this new world, Neo was transformed into Thomas Anderson again.
But he is no longer a code farmer or an underground hacker. This time he lived in a big villa and reached the pinnacle of his life with a game he designed.
This game is divided into three parts and has been made into a movie, and the fourth part is currently in preparation.
That’s right, it’s “The Matrix”.
But Thomas Anderson has always felt that life is weird. He often had hallucinations and nightmares, for which he hired a psychiatrist.
The psychologist is played by Neil Patrick Harris. This person is very familiar, very familiar, and he is the playboy Barney in “How I met ur mather”.
Psychological counselors are actually designers (analysts) of the new generation of Matrix, who use psychological counseling to stabilize the emotions of Neo, that is, Anderson, in the virtual world.
In the fighting scene that follows, this Harris has a line that breaks the dimension wall.
“Women used to be easy to control.”
And the treatment plan given by the psychiatrist is one after another blue pills. We all know what blue represents.
One day, Thomas Anderson, who was extremely exhausted and on the verge of collapse, encountered his character in the game, Morpheus, in the bathroom.
And Morpheus handed him a red pill (I think it’s horrible to do it again when I see it here).
Morpheus was brought to the real world by Bugs, and Bugs were the rebels that sneaked into the virtual world.
Their purpose is to find Neo, and they meet in Neo’s small room in the first part.
After finding Thomas Anderson (Neo), they talked about what they had passed and finally brought him back to the cold real world.
In this new world, the phone is no longer needed, and the link between the virtual world and the real world is a mirror.
When he woke up, Neo discovered that Trinity was still alive.
Trinity is called Tiffany in the virtual world, and she and Thomas also have some intersections.
But she has a husband and two children. When they meet, they always feel a little familiar.
And her husband’s name is Chad-it is Chad Stahelski, the director of “John Wick2-3-4” in reality.
He personally came to play himself in “The Matrix”.
After waking up, Neo now has only one wish-to rescue Trinity.
Neo’s awakening made the new version of Matrix extremely unstable. Analysts tried to persuade Neo to go back and threatened Trinity’s life.
This analyst is really too much nonsense.
They decided to let Tiffany make his own choice: whether to live a happy life with her husband and children in the virtual world or Neo in the real world.
Subsequently, Trinity’s savior ability awakened. That’s right, it was the female character Trinity who awakened this time.
Let’s stop here for the plot. To make it clear that “The Matrix” may not be enough for a hundred thousand words, we can only take you to review it briefly.
In fact, I want to start by saying that there are a lot of memory kills, such as Niobe, such as Neo’s training ground, as well as the girl Sati who appeared on the border road in the third part and the French Merovingian in the second part.
In addition, there are many official complaints. For example, the market is down. Warner said that they will shoot the fourth part of “The Matrix” regardless of whether there are creators or not.
I also racked my brains to come up with new tricks that are cooler than “bullet time”: it feels a lot like fast silver time.
In various interpretations of “The Matrix”, there is another big difference:
Is “Zion” the real world?
Because at the end of the second part of The Matrix, Neo stopped the mechanical octopus with his bare hands in the Zion world.
By the third installment, Neo has reached the point of opening his eyes.
Even if he was blinded by a stun gun, he could still see a world emitting yellow light.
But what is the truth? Maybe the Wachowski sisters didn’t want to make it clear.
One of the charms of the movie itself is that it leaves more room for interpretation.
