The producer explains why "Avatar 2" has made fans wait so long

“These scripts are the blueprint for our work.” Jon Landau said, “Most of the time is spent writing…Four scripts have their own challenges and must have a grand emotional theme. You look at the four sequels. When it is a whole, the story line formed by the interconnection between them outlines a huge epic masterpiece.

Just like movie fans have to wait 13 years, in “Avatar 2”, the story is also a long time away from the previous one.

Both Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) are now parents.

Landau said that family will be the core content of the four works: “If you think about it, there is nothing more common than the topic of family. The core of each sequel is the Sully family. What is the motivation for parents to protect the family?”

The sequel tells that when mankind resumes mining operations on Pandora, Jake Sully’s peaceful life is interrupted again, and he wants to take his family to seek a safe haven.

Landau said: “The Sully family no longer lives in their familiar environment, leaving the rainforest, just like fish out of water, no matter from a cultural or environmental point of view.”
