Disney+’s new series ‘American Born Chinese’ releases teaser trailer for Chinese-American coming-of-age fused with Chinese mythology

The series stars Ben Wang, Michelle Yeoh, Daniel Wu, Jonathan Ke Quan, Yeo Yann Yann, Chin Han, Jim Liu, Sydney Taylor, Stephanie Hsu, Lisa Lu and more and launches in the spring.

Brothers Kelvin Yu of ‘Bob’s Burgers: The Movie’ and Charles Yu of ‘Westworld’ wrote the script, with Kelvin Yu also serving as operator.

The main character is Jin Wang, an American-born Chinese teenager, and is a new adaptation of Chinese myths, legends and traditional stories such as ‘The Journey to the West’ and The Monkey King. When he meets a new foreign student in his first year of high school, more worlds collide and Jin Wang is drawn into a battle of Chinese mythological gods and immortals.

Michelle Yeoh plays “Guanyin” – Wei-Chen’s unassuming aunt, whose true form is the compassionate “Guanyin “.

Yeo Yann Yann and Chin Han play Jin Wang’s parents Christine and Simon, Daniel Wu plays “The Monkey KingSun Wukong” who comes looking for his son, and Jonathan Ke Quan plays a Jonathan Ke Quan as Freddy Wong, a fictional character from a 1990s sitcom; Jim Liu as Jin Wang’s friend Wei-Chen; and Sydney Taylor as Amelia, Jin Wang’s crush on a classmate.
