The highly anticipated “Uncharted” live-action film has become one of the top-grossing films of 2022 since it opened in North America earlier this month.

Although nothing has been announced, director Ruben Fleischer is already hoping for a sequel sometime in the future.

“Uncharted” tells the story of resourceful Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) and seasoned treasure hunter Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) teaming up to find Ferdinand Magellan’s lost treasure 500 years ago.

What seemed like a simple treasure hunt at first quickly turned into a thrilling, global race.

They must find the treasure before the ruthless Moncada (Antonio Banderas). Moncada is convinced that he and his family are the rightful heirs to the treasure.

If Nathan and Sullivan can decipher the clues and solve the world’s oldest mystery, they’ll be able to find $5 billion worth of treasure, and maybe even Nathan’s long-lost brother…

But first, they must learn to work together.

In an appearance on Deadline’s Hero Nation podcast, Ruben Fleischer, who directed “Zombieland” and “Venom,” revealed that he wants to return to directing for the follow-up to “Uncharted.”

“I can’t help but wish we could do a sequel, I think Sony is pretty superstitious and they don’t plan a sequel without knowing how to take it.”

“Uncharted” premiered on February 18, and despite receiving mixed reviews (the film currently has a 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), it did well at the box office.

It has grossed about $139 million worldwide so far. So it’s no surprise that Sony decided to green-light the sequel.

Meanwhile, fans can expect more Drake-linked content in “Fortnite,” the popular free-to-play battle royale game that recently released its “Uncharted” linked skin.

Players can now purchase Drake and Chloe skins, which include skins from the movie and the game.

“Uncharted” is currently in theaters.
