‘Super Mario Bros.: The Movie‎’ release poster, step into the game world

The well-known game ‘Super Mario Bros.: The Movie‎’ released a poster for an animated movie, and step into that game world. The movie trailer is coming soon.

Coinciding with its appearance at New York Comic-Con, Nintendo will begin a livestream at 1:05 pm Pacific / 4:05pm Eastern / 9:05pm UK.

It’s not clear if the Direct will simply consist of the trailer, or if it will add further information. One thing Nintendo’s clear on is that it won’t feature any gaming news.

As you can see in the announcement tweet, we also got a packed new poster for the movie, showing off a little of its animation style, and perhaps hinting at some of the locations we’ll see in the new Illumination movie.

In it, we see a Toad town (including a Toad who wears a similar backpack to Captain Toad), some of the Mario series’ iconic hills in suddenly more epic form, some Mario Galaxy-esque floating islands and, of course, Peach’s castle above it all.

There are, of course, many little references too – my favorite being the ‘Antiques’ shop that seems to sell items we haven’t seen in a Mario game for some time.

Originally announced back in 2018, Super Mario: The Movie is being produced by Nintendo and Illumination. The film would resurface again during the September 2021 Nintendo Direct, where Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto announced the film’s cast.

Chris Pratt will take on the title role (with a different accent), and the cast also includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong.

It’ll be a while until we see this all-star cast take their best shot at Nintendo’s iconic characters, as Illumination and Nintendo delayed the movie to April 2023.
