Some Numbers About Best Picture and Best Director at the 94th Academy Awards

News

Yesterday, the 94th Oscar came to an end, and “CODA” won the best picture and became the biggest winner.

Netflix spent a lot of energy promoting “The Power of the Dog”, but it only won the best director award, and the streaming giant still has no fate with the Oscar for best picture.

Here are some numbers and fun facts about the Oscars for the two films.

About “CODA”

“CODA” is a remake of the French film “La famille Bélier‎”, which is the first remake in 15 years to win the Oscar for best picture after “The Departed‎” (a remake of “Infernal Affairs”) in 2007.

The film is the first streaming production (Apple TV+) to win the Oscar for Best Picture.

It is also the first work to win both the biggest Sundance Film Festivel award and an Oscar for best picture.

The first film since the 1930s to win Best Picture but not be nominated for Best Director or Best Editing.

Since the 1930s, the winner of the best picture with the fewest total nominations has only three nominations, and three out of three.

Troy Kotsur won Best Supporting Actor for the film, becoming the first male hearing-impaired person ever to win an acting award.

However, Kotsur is only the second hearing-impaired person to win an acting award, the previous being Marlee Matlin, who won an Oscar for “Children of a Lesser God‎” in 1987.

Coincidentally, this Matline is the supporting actress of “CODA”.

Apple Streaming spent $25 million on the rights to the film, more than $10 million in PR, and less than $10 million in production.

This is the second time that streaming Netflix has won the Oscar for best director after “Roma‎”.
