In modern history, for the first time, October of 2021 became the month with the highest annual box office in North America.
It is estimated that in the past 31 days, Americans spent approximately $637.9 million on movie tickets.
This is the highest income since the outbreak, surpassing the $583.8 million in July this year (although it did not break the historical box office record in October).
Such good results show that under the double attack of the epidemic and streaming media, traditional theaters still maintain their own charm and advantages.

“Venom 2” (US$190.4 million),
“007: No Time to Die” ($133.3 million),
“Halloween Kills” ($85.6 million),
“Dune” ($69.4 million) and
“The Addams Family 2” ($52.9 million).
“Venom 2” also set its best first weekend box office so far during the epidemic, with a box office of $90 million.
The best box office months in the United States in previous years have been summer and year-end holidays.
However, due to the release of blockbuster films such as “Joker” in 2019 and “Venom” in 2018, the box office in October has achieved significant growth in recent years.
In the first half of this year, most high-cost movies were often postponed or rescheduled, resulting in more major movies being released in October than in previous years.
In October last year, the US domestic box office revenue was only $55 million.
Before that, it was 789 million U.S. dollars in 2019, 832 million U.S. dollars in 2018, 575 million U.S. dollars in 2017, 659 million U.S. dollars in 2016, and 721 million U.S. dollars in 2015.
The North American box office in the first 10 months of this year has reached US$3.1 billion, which is 45% higher than the box office receipts in the same period in 2020 and 66% higher than the box office receipts in 2019.
Entering November and December, theaters will benefit from the delayed release of several films.
“Eternals”, “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” and “Encanto” will be released in November.
“West Side Story” (Steven Spielberg), “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “The Matrix Resurrections” will be released in December.
“Spider-Man: No Way Home” is expected to become the first film this year to top $100 million at the box office during its first weekend.
