Transgender actress Ivory Aquino (“When We Rise”) joins DC’s new “Batgirl” as Barbara Gordon’s best friend and bartender Alysia Yeoh.

This is also the first transgender character in a DC live-action film.

Leslie Grace as Barbara, J.K. Simmons returns as Chief Gordon & Barbara’s father, Michael Keaton returns as Batman, Brendan Fraser as the villain Firefly, and Jacob Scipio also stars.

“Batgirl,” directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, with a script by Christina Hodson (“Bumblebee”, “Birds of Prey”), will be available on HBO Max.

Several characters in the comics have used the title Batgirl, most notably Barbara Gordon.

She has no superpowers, is good at fighting, is also a computer expert, and has all kinds of cool auxiliary equipment like Batman.
