As one of the most outstanding female directors in Europe, Polish director Agnieszka Holland has a new work planned. It is reported that she will be shooting a biopic called “Kafka”.

The protagonist of the film will be the famous Austro-Hungarian writer Franz Kafka, and the screenwriter of the film is Marek Epstein, who worked with Holland on “Charlatan”.

Kafka is the founder, pioneer and representative of Western modernist literature.

Born into a Jewish family, Kafka entered the University of Prague at the age of 18 to study literature and law, and he began writing in 1904. Kafka’s main works are four collections of short stories and three novels.

It is a pity that most of his works were not published before his death, and none of his three novels were finished. Much of Kafka’s work uses metamorphic images and symbolic intuitions to represent isolated, desperate individuals surrounded by a hostile social environment.

In Holland’s plan, the “Kafka” will be a feature film composed of several sketch-style short films.

The story of the film will focus on the world imagined and written by Kafka, from his creation to his life, and from the clues of his life, to find the starting point and inspiration for his writing.

The film spans from his birth to his death to the future he foresees.

At present, there is no specific casting arrangement for “Kafka”. It is understood that the film’s launch time is set in 2023.
