Movie World

Chris Pratt’s recent online backlash could jeopardize “Jurassic World: Dominion‎”‘s box office, but current projections for the film don’t suggest it could dent his star power.

Chris Pratt is the latest leading actor to lose his online popularity due to a range of factors. Some social media users have argued that he has lost his appeal to a large audience because of his fame.

Will Chris Pratt's Negative News Affect the Box Office of "Jurassic World: Dominion‎"?

While some other fans blamed overexposure, the actor has been involved in many high-profile projects all at once.

Still, other Pratt detractors have blamed the actor’s drop in online popularity on the actor’s indifference to ex-wife Anna Faris in social media posts, as well as Pratt’s lewd jokes at parks and entertainment during filming.

Whatever the reason, Chris Pratt is apparently facing a backlash online, which begs the question of whether or not this will cost the actor’s upcoming film the box office.

“Jurassic World: Dominion‎” is about to hit theaters, and Pratt’s kickback is most evident in the blockbuster.

However, according to current projections, Pratt’s public profile issues will not affect “Jurassic World: Dominion‎”‘s box office.

The sequel is expected to earn between $165 million and $205 million. So far, Pratt’s backlash online has not hurt his box office appeal.

And “Jurassic World: Dominion‎” is the finale of the trilogy, and it’s the first chance since 1993 to see Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill together again on screen.

As such, few viewers would avoid the blockbuster just to not see a Chris Pratt film.

A better test of its audience appeal is Pratt’s “The Terminal List‎,” an upcoming Amazon Prime series that relies more on the actor’s lead role.

Unlike “Jurassic World: Dominion‎,” where Jack Carr’s adaptation isn’t part of an established series, Pratt is the biggest star on the show’s cast.

So “The Terminal List‎”‘s performance in audiences may tell us how much online boycotts have affected Pratt’s appeal as a male lead.

However, as “Jurassic World: Dominion‎” reunites the cast of “Jurassic Park,” wrapping up the new “Jurassic World” trilogy, starring a group of beloved screen veterans like Dern and Neal .

So even an audience boycott of Pratt’s participation (which doesn’t seem to exist online) wouldn’t hurt its bottom line.

Another potential testing ground for Pratt’s audience appeal after “Jurassic World: Dominion‎” wraps up the new trilogy could be “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.”

However, like “Jurassic World,” the series has a number of factors unrelated to Pratt that contributed to its success, from James Gunn’s involvement to its MCU connections to its star supporting cast.

Just as “The Terminal List‎” may be more indicative of Pratt’s blockbuster future than “Jurassic World: Dominion‎,” new franchises like Mario or Garfield, led by Pratt, may be better than pre-existing “Guardians of the Galaxy” etc. Existing IP is more telling.

Regardless of the actor’s future, however, the current backlash against Chris Pratt will almost certainly not affect “Jurassic World: Dominion‎”‘s massive box office.

Please look forward to the official launch of “Jurassic World: Dominion‎” on June 10th!
