Why is the Iron Throne in “House of the Dragon” bigger and has more swords than in “Game of Thrones”?

‘House of the Dragon’ is finally on the air! However, this also leaves a question, why does the Iron Throne in this show look, much bigger than the Iron Throne in ‘Game of Thrones’, and the number of swords has also increased a lot?

As Viserys I mentioned in the first episode of ‘House of the Dragon’, Iron Throne is the most dangerous place in the entire kingdom. Not only because of the number of people who cut themselves from the forged sword, but also because of the responsibilities and goals of the people sitting on it.

Viserys even cut his hand on Iron Throne during the premiere of ‘House of the Dragon’, which gave Iron Throne a very different danger from ‘Game of Thrones’.

In ‘Game of Thrones’, Iron Throne is described as a chair that only the king of Westeros can sit on, forged from the swords of those who surrendered to the conqueror Aegon.

Although Iron Throne still looks very grand in ‘Game of Thrones’, it’s not nearly as big and intimidating as in ‘House of the Dragon’. House of the Dragon’ is set “172 years before Daenerys Targaryen was born”.

‘House of the Dragon’ has a surprisingly large Iron Throne with tons of swords covering the chairs and sticking out to cut the people sitting on them – not to mention more swords on the stairs leading up to the ruler’s chair.

For readers of George R.R. Martin’s ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’, the size of Iron Throne in ‘Game of Thrones’ has been a major point of contention. Because it is described as similar to what Daenerys imagined when he was a child.

The design of ‘House of the Dragon’ is more faithful to the original than ‘Game of Thrones’. It also really captures the threatening atmosphere that this chair wants to provoke.

Considering that House of Targaryen, at this point in ‘House of the Dragon’ was at the peak of its power, there is a reason why Iron Throne looks so imposing. What’s more, the overall budget of ‘House of the Dragon’ is also more than ‘Game of Thrones’.

Considering that the stories of ‘House of the Dragon’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ are separated by about 200 years, ‘House of the Dragon’ can be said to be a completely different world.

The throne in ‘House of the Dragon’ seems to reflect what Daenerys imagined Iron Throne to look like when he was a child, which means that House of Targaryen looks like this when he sits on the throne.

Thus, the appearance of Iron Throne may have changed significantly when Robert Baratheon usurped the throne and removed all of Targaryen’s memorabilia from the main hall.

However, in Aerys II Targaryen’s flashbacks, his Iron Throne resembles Robert’s Iron Throne, suggesting that Daenerys’ father would have made changes as his paranoia deepened.

In the 280 years before Robert Baratheon overthrew the House of Targaryen, Iron Throne underwent many incremental changes.

It is reasonable to assume that every king who has sat on Iron Throne before him has made adjustments to the throne room and dangerous seating during his reign, but perhaps the greatest change was seen during Robert’s reign.

Of course, since ‘House of the Dragon’ is a prequel, we all know the ending of this Iron Throne. After the death of Daenerys Targaryen, this Iron Throne has ceased to exist. Because at the end of ‘Game of Thrones’, the dragon has completely destroyed Iron Throne.

As ‘House of the Dragon’ develops, the threat of Iron Throne will continue to be an important aspect of the House of Targaryen conflict.

In any case, after watching ‘House of the Dragon’, I felt that the overall scale and story of the show, did not disappoint.
