Patrick McKay said in the interview: “If you’ve been exposed to “The Lord of the Rings” in the cinema, you’ll realize how right Peter Jackson is about this work. We’re just fans from afar, and I’m not going to try to compete with him with ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power'”.

Patrick McKay said that the new series will not be compared with “Game of Thrones”.

He said: “We want to stay true to Tolkien’s work more than to catch up with these “neighbors”. “If you keep trying to compare yourself to your ‘neighbors,’ you might lose faith, but one of the mottos of this movie is that the source material comes first.”

He followed up with another series of “Harry Potter” examples, saying, “Harry Potter is beloved not only for its novelty, friendship and humor, but also because it’s about knowledge, politics, history, mythology and depth, so we’re focused on delving into our existence, and we don’t care what other people do. We don’t care what other people do.”

The eight-episode season 1 of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” which cost more than $465 million and is the most expensive TV series ever made, will air on Sept. 2, 2022.

The plot is set thousands of years before the stories of “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings”: powerful forces are forged, kingdoms rise in glory and fall into dust, unexpected heroes are tested, and Tolkien’s most powerful villains want to darken all the world.

From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of Linden, the capital of the Elves, to the breathtaking empire of Númenor, and to the farthest reaches of the map, the legacy of these kingdoms and characters endures forever.
