Cavill announced at the end of last year that he would not be reprising his role as Superman in the “initial phase” of the DCU.

James Gunn said he liked Cavill very much, but the fact that Cavill was pinched by many people, for various considerations, after the reboot Superman’s role did not choose him.

He said, “First of all, we didn’t fire Henry, and Henry was never cast by us. Henry just made a cameo appearance as ‘Black Adam’ and that was the end of his story, and a lot of people made a lot of wrong assumptions about that. But for me, it was about who I wanted to play Superman and what the filmmakers who made the movie wanted to get out of it, and let’s just say the final answer was not Henry.”
