The finale of ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 1 ends with the death of Lucerys and Rhaenyra’s determination. Although Rhaenyra is hesitant to make peace with Alicent, the successive deaths of her two children change her mind about the next Dance of the dragons.

In ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 1 Episode 10, we see different sides of the main characters, including a more unstable depiction of Daemon and Rhaenyra’s marriage.

Meanwhile, the children of Rhaenyra are given more important responsibilities as emissaries, Lucerys is sent to Storm’s End, while Iron Throne’s new heir, Jacaerys Velaryon, heads to Winterfell to find the Stark family.

After an irrevocable feud, the look in Rhaenyra’s eyes in the Season 1 finale of ‘House of the Dragon’ tells us one thing: Dance of the dragons is coming.

What does Lucerys’ death mean?

Of Rhaenyra’s children, Lucerys is more hesitant to accept his duties, and his death becomes even more tragic in ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 1, Episode 10.

Lucerys ignores Aemond’s taunt and tries to escape back to Dragonstone, but his little dragon is no match for Vhagar.

Unlike George R.R. Martin’s ‘Fire & Blood’, Aemond was only supposed to take back the eyes. Only, Vhagar didn’t listen to him.

Rhaenyra had considered accepting Otto’s terms.

Interestingly, Aemond tells Aegon that his killing of Lucerys was intentional. Rather than an accident due to his inability to control Vhagar – he prefers to be interpreted as evil and intolerant, rather than weak.

What is Jacaerys Velaryon’s mission?

Although Lucerys’ mission to Storm’s End ended in tragedy, Jacaerys’ journey, however, was relatively smooth. His next location will be: Winterfell.

Yes, the Stark family is finally coming to town. According to the records of ‘Fire & Blood’, the Jacaerys managed to get the support of the Irene family.

Jacaerys mission in Winterfell was more successful because of the rapport he developed with Cregan Stark.’ Fire & Blood” a narrator says they hunted, drank, trained together and then vowed a blood-bonded brotherhood.

Before leaving Winterfell, Jacaerys signed a “contract of ice and fire” with Cregan.

The real meaning of ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 1 ending

While audiences were divided over the multiple time jumps in ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 1. But the point of Season 1 is to explore how a family slowly splits from an irreparable rift.

Rhaenyra tries to fulfill her father’s desire for peace, but it is King Viserys’ weakness that puts her in this position.

Misunderstandings, resentment and generational trauma lead to the war at the end of ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 1, and by this time destruction is inevitable.

Rhaenyra tried to avoid it, but it was clear that war would come anyway – and Lucerys’ death completely washed away all her previous hesitations.

In the grand finale of ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 1, the entire Westeros is tormented by the resentment of House of Targaryen.
