“Sex Education’s Emma Mackey looks like Margot Robbie” has become a well-known internet joke, and the two recently starred together in ‘Barbie’.
Recently ‘Total Film’ asked Mackey about the issue and she said she was aware of the internet buzz about the two looking alike: “It’s just funny and I think Margot has the kind of atmosphere and humor to use that stunt – allowing me to appear in the same movie as her, God bless her.It’s a joke in real life, I’m like ‘we’re nothing like each other’, I don’t mind (that kind of joke), it’s Margot Robbie eh, who are you kidding? She’s the best, I look up to her super much. I don’t mind the comparison, but it would be great if this stunt could pass.”
Mackey also said it had always been her dream to work with ‘Barbie’ director Greta Gerwig, so she decided to audition for ‘Barbie’ as soon as the opportunity arose: “I’m super excited, Greta is my hero and I love her, and it’s my biggest dream to work with her.
“She added that the script for ‘Barbie’ is “one of the best scripts we’ve all read” and that “it’s going to be unexpected in a lot of ways, and I know people have their own perceptions of the film, but I don’t think it’s going to be anything like that. I’m really excited that it’s going to blow people away. And it’s a comedy, thank God, and it doesn’t make people cry! I’ll tell you this: there are no crying points, it feels super great to do pure comedy, and it’s an American comedy, and I got to work with some of my beloved heroes.”
