The “Netflix Japan 2021 Film Festival” is being held in Japan. It is reported that director Hirokazu Koreeda, who has nominated the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and won the Palme d’Or in Cannes with “Shoplifters”, will produce movies and series for this streaming media.
Hirokazu Koreeda said that the new movie he made with Netflix has a completely different style from his previous work, and the investment will be very large.
In addition, Hirokazu Koreeda will also act as the operator of the original series, and will direct several of them.
“The series I want to shoot would hardly exist without Netflix’s input. I would collaborate with a group of young directors on this work.”
After “Shoplifters” in 2019, Hirokazu Koreeda started international cooperation.
He first filmed the French director “The Truth About Catherine”, and then collaborated with Bae Doo Na, 송강호, Kang Dong Won, and “IU” Lee Ji Eun in the Korean film “Broker”.
Now Hirokazu Koreeda has finally returned to Japan to produce new works.
