James Cameron was recently interviewed by ‘Total Film’ and explained the reason why ‘Avatar 2’ is over three hours long.
He said the goal of the sequel was to address the imbalance created between characters, storytelling and pure visual spectacle, an accusation made by audiences against the prequel.
“Our goal was to tell a very compelling story based on emotion…I would say that the focus of this new film is more on character, story, relationships and emotion. The first film didn’t spend as much time on relationships and emotions as the second film did. It’s a longer film because there are more characters to serve and more story to serve.”
