Christopher Nolan: No CGI used for atomic bomb explosion in ‘Oppenheimer’

Last year Christopher Nolan announced to direct the “father of the atomic bomb” after the ‘Oppenheimer’, there are fans joke, always like the actual shooting does not love CG special effects Nolan will not really want to detonate the atomic bomb, right?

Nolan’s words are true, in the recently published ‘Total Film’ the British director revealed that the film’s nuclear explosion scenes do not use CG effects. The film will be released in Northern America on July 21, 2023.

Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer

“I think it was a huge challenge to recreate the Trinity test (the first nuclear bomb explosion in New Mexico) without using computer CG effects. Visual effects director Andrew Jackson was on the production team early on, and we were working on achieving as realistic an effect as possible, especially with the ‘Trinity’ test involving quantum dynamics and quantum physics. We had huge real-world challenges with the harsh weather on set in Los Alamos, New Mexico.”

Emily Blunt as Oppenheimer’s Katherine

Nolan said the film is not just a biopic, but a story on a grand scale, the largest film he has ever made. Both the logistics and the realization of the film’s effects were a huge challenge.

Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, former U.S. Secretary of Commerce

“We’re trying to tell the story of one person’s life, their journey through their personal history and the larger history. The subjectivity of the story is everything to me, and the film looks at these events through Oppenheimer’s perspective, and that’s the challenge I gave Cillian to take us on this journey.”

“The film was a challenge for cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema , for the art director, for the whole team: how do we see this extraordinary story through the eyes of the central characters? The decisions about how to make this film were based on this true premise.”

The film ‘Oppenheimer’ starring Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. and Emily Blunt, Matt Damon and others, focuses on J. Robert Oppenheimer, the “father of the atomic bomb” in the United States, who played a role in the development of the The role he played in the development of the first atomic bomb.

The screenplay, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book ‘American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer’ by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, is described as “an epic thriller that draws audiences into a thrilling paradox: a mysterious man must risk the destruction of the world to save it.
