The success of “Squid Game” adds 4.4 million subscribers to Netflix

According to Netflix’s original “viewing rate” statistical standard, the number of viewers of the Korean drama “Squid Game” has reached 142 million 28 days after its launch.

“Squid Game” is not only the most popular original series in Netflix history, but also the most popular original work.

Earlier, the original movie “Extraction” has created 99 million viewership ratings.

May be affected by “Squid Game”, Netflix announced that the next “viewing rate” statistical method will be revised.

Netflix will calculate the complete viewing time of the work, which is in line with the TV station’s viewing rate statistics method.

Previously, their method of counting the “viewing rate” of original works was: within 28 days of the series being online, at least 2 minutes of viewing counts as one viewer.

Netflix currently has 213 million global subscribers, which means that 2/3 of users watch “Squid Game”.

Driven by original works such as “Squid Game”, a Korean drama, Netflix’s third-quarter subscribers increased by 4.4 million, far exceeding outside expectations.

These growth mainly came from the Asia-Pacific region, but North America fell by 70,000.

Netflix’s third-quarter revenue was US$7.5 billion, an increase of 16% from the US$7.3 billion in the second quarter. Netflix expects to add 8.5 million subscribers in the fourth quarter.
