“The Staircase‎” Starring Colin Firth, Toni Collette Releases Official Teaser

The limited series “The Staircase‎‎” starring Colin Firth and Toni Collette released a preview, and it announced that it will be launched on HBO Max on May 5.

The show focuses on the famous “Staircase Wife Killing Case” in the United States, featuring Juliette Binoche, Rosemarie DeWitt, Parker Posey, Sophie Turner, Odessa Young, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Dane DeHaan, Olivia DeJonge, Tim Guinee, Michael Stuhlbarg, etc. Antonio Campos (” The Devil All the Time‎””The Sinner”) and Maggie Cohn (“American Crime Story”).

The case has been made into documentary series “The Staircase” (2004) and “The Staircase: An American Murder Mystery‎” (2018).

In 2001, the wife of crime novelist Michael Peterson (Firth), Kathleen (Collette), died under the stairs of their home after she fell to her death while drunk, Peterson said.

An investigation by authorities found that the cause of death was homicide, so Peterson, who was the only one at home at the time, was charged with murder.

During the trial, they found that a friend Peterson had previously lived in Germany had also died, allegedly from a brain hemorrhage after falling down the stairs, and that her head injury was similar to Kathleen’s.

In addition, the prosecution argued that Kathleen discovered Peterson was bisexual and had been having affairs with other men, leading him to beat him to death.

Peterson claimed his wife knew his sexual orientation, they were in an open marriage, and he was by the pool at home when the incident occurred.

In 2003, a jury finally found Peterson guilty.
