Kevin Spacey is required to compensate the production company of “House of Cards” with US$31 million due to allegations of sexual assault

The arbitrator decided that Kevin Spacey had to pay $31 million to MRC, the production company of “House of Cards”, after being expelled for violating the sexual harassment regulations in the contract.

Among them, US$29.5 million is loss expenses, and US$1.4 million is attorney’s fees.

This arbitration decision was made in October 2020, has been kept confidential, and will be open to the public this Monday.

A three-member arbitration panel also rejected Kevin Spacey’s appeal.

In 2017, “Star Trek: Discovery” actor Anthony Rapp revealed that he was taken to bed by the then 26-year-old Kevin Spacey when he was attending a party at the age of 14, and wanted to have a relationship.

Kevin Spacey issued an apology for this and announced his coming out.

After that, Kevin Spacey faced multiple allegations of sexual harassment and sexual assault, including the anonymous allegations of 8 crew members.

“House of Cards” used to be Netflix’s number one hit show. It can be said that it has established Netflix’s current status in the industry.

It also made Netflix’s strategy of “release all episodes at once” (previous American dramas were one episode a week) exceptionally successful, and made Kevin Spacey’s presidential image deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.

Faced with a sexual assault scandal, the screenwriters at the beginning of the sixth season of “House of Cards” wrote the president to death, allowing Claire Underwood, played by Robin Wright, to take over as the new president.

MRC’s lawsuit against Kevin Spacey is also based on this.

They believe that it was because of Kevin Spacey’s sexual assault allegations that the sixth season had to rewrite the script, cutting from 13 episodes to 8.

This has brought economic losses to the company.

Every Christmas since 2018, Kevin Spacey will send a short video to convey something to the outside world.
