J.R.R. Tolkien’s grandson, Simon Tolkien, serves as advisor to the series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”

‘The Lord of the Rings’ drama version ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1’ will begin airing on September 2, with a total of 8 episodes.Recently ‘Entertainment Weekly’ revealed that Simon Tolkien, the grandson of J.R.R. Tolkien, the original author of ‘The Lord of the Rings’, is serving as a consultant for the show.

Series operators John D. Payne and Patrick McKay said Season 1 story is not from the novel itself, but from the novel’s appendices recorded in the ‘Second Age’ inspired by the ‘The Lord of the Rings’ ‘The Hobbit’ thousands of years before the epic .

Patrick McKay said that Simon-Tolkien’s contribution to the series was invaluable, “Simon-Tolkien is not only an accomplished novelist, but also the grandson of the original author, J.R.R. Tolkien. Considering his expertise and insight into his grandfather’s work, he played a key role in helping to shape the show’s story and characters.”

Simon-Tolkien said, “I am also happy to help, especially in advising the two operators on issues such as my grandfather’s original work.”

‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ does not adapt the main chapter of Tolkien’s novel, but instead is based on the second generation as recorded in Tolkien’s appendix to ‘The Lord of the Rings,’ McKay and Payne said, exploring Sauron’s first rise to power and the story of The Rings’ original build.

McKay previously told ‘Entertainment Weekly’ that: “We weren’t interested in making a movie version of the protagonist’s youth, it was too much like a prequel. We wanted to go back a long, long time and find a story that could stand on its own.”
