DC President Walter Hamada may be leaving, Batgirl was axed but he didn’t know it

Warner Bros. Discovery has been making big moves lately, with CEO David Zaslav saying the DC Universe movie franchise is being reinvented and has a decade-long plan, similar to the Marvel Universe system.

Previously, the ‘Batgirl’ movie, which cost $90-100 million and had been wrapped in April, was axed outright.

According to media THR, when the news was broken by the ‘New York Post’, even the president of DC Pictures, Walter Hamada, did not even know about it, and even he only learned of the news through the media.

And Walter Hamada was unhappy that the film was axed without notice to himself and was concerned about the impact the move would have on the film’s production staff.

Deadline points out that the move could reduce losses for Warner by up to another $15-20 million.

Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav said on a previous quarterly earnings call, “We don’t release movies before they’re ready; our focus is on how to make each one as good as possible. We think we can build a long-term, stronger sustainable growth business at DC. As part of that, we’re going to focus on quality.”

David Zaslav insinuated that ‘Batgirl’ was cut because of the poor response to the film from test audiences.

Sources revealed that Walter Hamada is also on the verge of stepping down as David Zaslav has made it clear that he is looking for a new leader for the DC Universe, and Walter Hamada will stay on at least until October 21 when ‘Black Adam’ opens in theaters.

In January 2018, Walter Hamada was appointed to the position of President of DC Film Production at Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc. at a time of crisis following the ‘Justice League’ fiasco.

During his reign, he achieved significantly better results are ‘Aquaman’ and ‘Joker’, ‘The Batman’ is also one of the films that have performed well since the epidemic, but other than that the performance of other DC films is not good enough.
