Streaming ratings data released, Disney and Netflix carve up the market

Recently, Nielsen, a well-known market monitoring and data analysis company in the United States, released a report that counted the viewing data of streaming media across the United States in 2021.

In the end, in terms of movies, two companies, Disney and Netflix, shared more than 95% of the market.

Of the top 15 films, 14 were produced by these two companies. The only exception was “The Tomorrow War” at No. 12. The film is distributed by Amazon.

However, the data has a certain deviation. In Nielsen’s statistical method, as long as the viewing exceeds 2 minutes, it is considered a valid viewing.

And these viewing data do not include viewing on mobile phones.

In addition, Nielsen does not have long-term stable monitoring of these platforms.

However, the ratings of various streaming media platforms have always lacked public and authoritative data. Nielsen’s list is relatively complete and recognized.

In addition, the movies on the Disney+ platform have a policy of charging for the first broadcast, which will also affect the viewing data to a certain extent.

Looking at the entire data, among the top five films, one to four are Disney cartoons.

Luca, in particular, was the only film on the list to have more than 10 million views.

In addition, “Moana”, “Raya and The Last Dragon” and “Frozen 2” ranked second to fourth.

This also reflects, from one aspect, the family-friendly nature of the Disney+ platform.

The closely watched Netflix company’s top-grossing film was “Red Notice” at No. 5.

The film, starring Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds, was generally well-received, but audiences bought it.

At present, the film has confirmed two sequels, which will be shot back-to-back.

  1. “Luca” Disney+ 10.59 million
  2. “Moana” Disney+ 8.9 million
  3. “Raya and The Last Dragon” Disney+ 8.34 million
  4. “Frozen 2” Disney+ 5.75 million
  5. “Red Notice” Netflix 5.53 million
  6. “Frozen” Disney+ 5.42 million
  7. “Soul” Disney+ 5.28 million
  8. “Cruella” Disney+ 5.17 million
  9. The Mitchells vs. the Machines Netflix 4.52 million
  10. Jungle Cruise Disney+ 4.43 million
  11. “Black Widow” Disney+ 4.41 million
  12. “The Tomorrow War” Amazon 4.05 million
  13. “Coco” Disney+ 4.01 million
  14. “We Can Be Heroes” Netflix 3.77 million
  15. “Avengers 4” Disney+ 3.68 million
