Saudi asks ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ to cut LGBTQ plot, Disney says no

Not long ago, it was reported that “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” was banned in Saudi Arabia for containing gay characters.

Recently, Nawaf Alsabhan, director of Saudi Arabia’s film classification, revealed the latest news in an interview with Agence France-Presse: Saudi Arabia did not ban “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”, but asked for a simple edit, but Disney refused. .

The report said that Saudi Arabia asked to cut a 12-second scene in which the lesbian character “Miss America” ​​talks about her “two mothers”, but Disney refused to make any edits to the film, saying it wanted to maintain the integrity of the film.

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” was originally slated for a May 5 release in Saudi Arabia, and while it wasn’t banned, it has yet to get a license from the censors.

Because homosexuality is illegal throughout the Bay Area, it also conflicts with the local culture.

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is a fantasy film directed by Sam Raimi, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, and is slated for release in Northern America on May 6, 2022.
