Michael Mann confirms ‘Heat’ is already working on a sequel

Classic crime film ‘Heat’ director Michael Mann has previously and recently expressed the idea of making a sequel to the film, and the latest in Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, he confirmed that the film is already in development for a sequel, not just thinking about it.

Recently Mann was promoting his ‘Heat’ sequel novel ‘Heat 2’, and he said on the show that “the book will also be a big movie”, and Maron asked with suspicion: “Will it be a movie? ” Mann confirmed, “Yes.”

And asked if development of the film is already underway, Mann said, “Yes, it’s something I can’t go into detail about yet, but the answer is yes.” It sounds like it’s possible that a script is being written.

  The novel ‘Heat 2’ will be officially released on August 18 of this year, and Mann said not long ago, “(The novel) is fully intended to be a movie.”

He said that if ‘Heat 2’ could be made into a movie, it would be a blockbuster, not a less expensive movie or an expensive drama, it would have to be a big production film, so the burden would be quite heavy.

The novel ‘Heat 2’ is structured similarly to the sequel + prequel style of ‘The Godfather: Part II’, dealing with events before and after the first film, featuring Vincent  Hanna and Chris Shiherlis (‘ Heat’ starring Al Pacino and Val Kilmer).

Therefore, if ‘Heat 2’ is really going to make a movie, the first part of the cast such as Robert De Niro and Val Kilmer is not going to return Mann said: “I love these guys, but they have to be 6 years younger than in ‘Heat’ (to be suitable to return for the sequel) “.

And he is also aware that 27 years have passed since the first film, Hollywood and movie audiences have been updated, but he also said he believes that the first film still has some influence on the audience, and to this day there are still people watching and talking about the film, “it has stayed in our culture”.

So, Mann felt that the sequel must also be a blockbuster with an intention.
