James Gunn says he wants to spend $500 million on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”

Recently, according to the media, James Gunn made a surprising statement in an exclusive interview with a magazine, saying that he wanted to spend $500 million to shoot “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”.

Marvel has not responded so far.

James Gunn was asked during the interview: “Can filming do anything you want?”

He replied in seconds: “No, I really want to have 500 million US dollars to shoot the effect I want, but the filmmaker must make a budget according to the box office performance, so I am forced to think of some ideas that can stimulate the box office.”

Numbers are the best proof, and in the Marvel movies directed by James Gunn, it’s arguably big bucks.

“Guardians of the Galaxy”, released in 2014, cost around $200 million and eventually grossed $773 million worldwide.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” which launched in 2017, also cost $200 million and grossed $863 million worldwide.

In 2018, “Avengers: Infinity War”, which he participated in the production of, cost 316-400 million US dollars, and the global box office was 2.028 billion US dollars.

The only film that didn’t hit the mark was “The Suicide Squad” in 2021, which cost $185 million and ended up with $167 million.

At present, Marvel’s $200 million “Spider-Man: No Way Home” has exceeded $1.6 billion at the global box office, and this number will continue to rise.

In the future, Marvel will definitely calculate the cost performance of each movie, and the $500 million investment expected by “Rolling Guide” may backfire.
