Disaster satirical comedy “Don’t Look Up” breaks Netflix record in the first week of viewing time

Netflix’s doomsday comedy “Don’t Look Up” set a new ratings record on the streaming platform.

From its launch on December 27th to January 2nd, the movie’s total global viewing time has reached 152.29 million hours in just one week.

“Don’t Look Up” set a record for the longest viewing time in a week.

Netflix confirmed the number and recording status to the media Deadline.

The movie soared on Netflix, rushing to 111 million hours at the beginning.

Just a few weeks later, “Don’t Look Up” became the third most viewed movie ever since the Netflix original movie was released 28 days ago.

This ratings is second only to “Bird Box” and “Red Notice”.

According to Deadline estimates, “Don’t Look Up” may surpass these two movies, refreshing Netflix’s historical viewing record.

The film’s screenwriter and director Adam McKay said on Twitter that he was “surprised” by the ratings of “Don’t Look Up”.

“Don’t Look Up” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.

The scientists played by the two discovered that a comet was about to collide and destroy the earth. They desperately tried to persuade people including the President of the United States (Meryl Streep) to take this matter seriously, but they were ignored time and time again.

“Don’t Look Up” is a satire of today’s America and the world.

In addition, Cate Blanchett, Jonah Hill, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Ron Perlman, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande and other big-name celebrities also participated in the show.

The film’s director Adam McKay previously won the 2016 Oscar for his “The Big Short”.
