Ang Lee: ‘Bruce Lee’ won’t use 120 fps anymore, and neither will superhero movies anymore

To promote the 4K re-release of ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ Northern America, director Ang Lee was interviewed by DiscussingFilm and asked if his next film ‘Bruce Lee Ang Lee was asked if the next film ‘Bruce Lee’ would still be shot in 120 fps, Ang Lee replied “No”.

‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ started its re-release in Northern America on Feb. 17 and got $170,000 last weekend, ranking 16th.

Ang Lee said he was 45 years old when he directed ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’, just in the mid-life crisis, he put a lot of confusion and thoughts in his life in this film.

He admits that this is the hardest work he has shot in his career and that he will not manipulate a project of this scale again for one simple reason: “I’m too old (68).”

Ang Lee directed the Universal release ‘Hulk’ in 2003, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe before the rise of the work, when the reviews received mixed reviews, Ang Lee said he would not do another comic book adaptation of the superhero film, “I did it once, will not do it again. I was happy to make that movie, but I didn’t feel very comfortable with the polarizing reviews after the film was released.”

Ang Lee’s works in recent years have been obsessed with technologies like 4K, 3D and 120 fps, but commercially unsuccessful. Asked if his next film ‘Bruce Lee’ will use 120 fps, he said, “120 fps is challenging audience habits and industry standards, because 24 fps is historically formed. This movie will not use 120 fps, but I hope to innovate in the action scenes, just like Bruce Lee did with kung fu back in the day.”

Ang Lee’s son, Mason Lee, will play Bruce Lee in ‘Bruce Lee’, for which he has been in special training for three years.

The film is produced by Sony’s 3000 Pictures, and Bruce Lee’s daughter Shannon Emery Lee will be one of the producers of the film.

The film is still in the script stage, with the latest version written by Dan Futterman, the writer of ‘Foxcatcher’ ‘Capote’.
