‘Top Gun: Maverick’ director Joseph Kosinski: Disney cancels ‘TRON: Legacy’ sequel project because of Marvel and Star Wars

Directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Tom Cruise, the action film “Top Gun: Maverick‎” has been a hit since its release, surpassing $300 million at the global box office on June 1.

In a recent interview, director Joseph Kosinski talked about the sequel to his previously canceled project “TRON: Legacy”, and it can be seen that he still can’t put it down after all these years.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, “TRON: Legacy‎” was officially released on December 17, 2010. The film is the sequel to the 1982 classic sci-fi film “TRON‎”, starring Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde.

The third film was canceled by Disney despite grossing more than $400 million worldwide.

Joseph Kosinski reiterated that Disney’s acquisition of Marvel and “Star Wars” was the reason for the cancellation of the “TRON: Legacy” sequel. “The film was close to production at the time, and I started storytelling for the film, and I was really excited at the time.” But then the project took a turn for the worse.

“When I made ‘TRON: Legacy‎’, they didn’t have anything. But then everything changed, they had Marvel, they had ‘Star Wars’, and they put money into these IPs rather than people like me Art students with black nails like this are more insured, understandable.”
