“Grease‎” actress Olivia Newton-John dies at 73

According to media reports, California local time Monday (August 8), had and John Travolta co-starred in ‘Grease’ actress Olivia Newton-John died at the age of 73 due to illness.

Her husband, John Easterling, announced the news on social media and said Olivia had been battling breast cancer for more than 30 years.

Olivia Newton-John was born in England and raised in Australia. She started her career as a country singer and was nominated for the Grammy Awards in the 60s and 70s and won four times.

Olivia Newton-John was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1978 for Best Actress in a Musical for ‘Grease’ starring John Travolta, and she sang the Oscar-nominated song ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’ at the 1978 Academy Awards Gala. You’.

In 1953, at the age of five, Olivia and her family immigrated to Melbourne, Australia, where her father was a tutor at Ormond College at the University of Melbourne.

Olivia began forming a band with her friends at the age of 14, and then moved to the UK after being featured on the singing talent show Sing, Sing, Sing.

Her debut album, If Not For You, featured the title single written by Bob Dylan, and she won her first Emmy Awards (Best Country Female Vocalist) in 1973 for Let Me Be There.

The following year she represented the UK at the annual Eurovision Song Contest, and her song “I Honestly Love You”, released the same year, became one of Newton-John’s most iconic tracks.

She was encouraged to come to the United States by Australian singer Helen Reddy, who arranged for Olivia to meet Allan Carr, the producer of ‘Grease’, and was offered the lead role, which she played as a high school girl in 1977, when she turned 29.

The film was the highest-grossing film in the United States in 1998, and the director’s soundtrack name can still be seen on the record sales charts from time to time.

She teamed up with John Travolta again in 1983 for ‘Two of a Kind’, but the market effect was much smaller.

Since then Olivia Newton-John has made occasional cameo appearances in films, but no starring roles have been released.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, but recovered through her efforts and has since become an active participant and supporter of public awareness and research activities on the disease.

Olivia Newton-John had her name on the Walk Of Fame in 1981 and was awarded the Order of the Kingdom of Great Britain in 1979 and the Order of Australia in 2006 for her achievements in both music and film.
