‘Don Jon’ Review: A Hardcore Romantic Comedy With Humor

“Don Jon” is the first film written, directed and acted by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, a new generation of Hollywood idol , so Jon had to try to quit the hobby.

It’s a pity that the male protagonist is not strong enough, and he still returns to the small screen time and time again, falling into a turbulent illusory world. Can Jon and Barbara’s love succeed?

“Don Jon” handed over a “pleasant” rather than “surprise” transcript, this seemingly dismantling and honestly facing the very different love sketches between men and women, and finally returns to the point of view of traditional genre films.

It says that a successful love relationship does not depend on one-way giving, but two-way communication.

“Don Jon” says the choppy heroines on the small screen or the good guys in Hollywood romance movies are all less important than real-life men and women who are willing to take you seriously.

It says that love has to go on for a long time, and it may be possible to take the lead in favor of the eye, but favor the heart is the last proud king.

“Don Jon”‘s love story is reminiscent of “(500) Days of Summer” starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, or “While You Were Sleeping” by Sandra Bullock or “Crazy, Stupid, Love” starring Ryan Gosling, etc. piece.

These works all point out some “blind spots” in love relationships, and in the end, they all simplify the various issues raised in the film (how to go on in a relationship, the pressure often comes not only from both men and women, but also from family members or other external factors, and then ended with a perfect ending, allowing the protagonists to “temporarily” live happily ever after.

Yes, the images and lines of “Don Jon” may be “heavy,” but fans of Joseph Gordon-Levitt need not worry, this is still a romantic film with a very typical and traditional spirit inside.

There are three things about “Don Jon” that really strike me.

First, when Jon introduced Barbara to his family, Jon’s parents were very fond of Barbara. They liked Barbara not only because the girl was very polite, but also because the girl was “so beautiful”.

What are the benefits of a pretty girl? In addition to the advantage of being “pleasant to the eye”, there is also the fact that “it’s not ashamed to take it out and introduce it to relatives and friends.” For Jon’s parents, it seems that “saving face” is enough.

Looking back at real life, many parents do not often ask their children to be friends with each other. If they are not handsome/beautiful enough, and they do not have a wealthy family background to support them, even if the other party is kind and kind, they will still be shot.

Second, I really like the relationship between old and young in “Don Jon” (the woman is much older than the man), Esther played by Julianne Moore successfully defeated the young and charming Scarlett Johansson, won the trust and love of the hero, and told the true love It’s not just about external attractiveness, but more about whether the other person can “reach” your heart/soul.

On the one hand, I feel that it is a pity that “Don Jon” did not have a more in-depth discussion on the issue of old and young couples; “middle.

I have to admit that this is the more likely result in real life. After all, “mature men and girls” are fairly well accepted by the public, and “mature women and boys” are easy to be ridiculed.

When it comes to love, we (the public) think that we are very tolerant. In fact, our prejudice against certain established impressions is still small nose and small eyes.

Third, at the end of “Don Jon”, Jon reunites with Barbara, he said: “I want to apologize to you, I shouldn’t lie…”, Barbara replied indifferently: “I just ask you to do a simple The thing, that is don’t lie, and you can’t!”

Jon replied, “But you didn’t just ask me one thing, you actually asked me a lot of things…” Barbara didn’t listen to the explanation, she picked up her purse to leave, she said, “Please don’t call me again. , goodbye.” After speaking, Barbara walked away.

I really appreciate the ending of Jon and Barbara, it accurately portrays the gap in the concept of the “ex” lovers, and it also proves that Barbara’s “breakup” decision is the best and possibly the only correct answer for him or her.

There is no dichotomy and criticism of what is right and what is wrong, only I won’t change myself for you, and you won’t change for me, so we’ll stop here for honesty.

“Don Jon” has a humorous plot, a nice interlude, the charming and beautiful Scarlett Johansson, the writer-director Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the rare Julianne Moore without nude scenes; and the “Who’s the Boss?‎” dad Tony, who has not been seen in a long time Danza!

These alone are enough to attract people to watch!
