James Cameron directs ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ with new stills, the film will be released in Northern America on December 16, running 3 hours and 10 minutes.
Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet and Michelle Yeoh star.
The sequel is set more than a decade after the first story, when Jake and Neytiri start a family and move to a waterfront location to avoid the threat of RDA mining operations, and they take in a human child, ”Spider”.
In a recent interview, Cameron said, “The focus of the new film is more on the characters, the story, the relationships and the emotions.” It will be a family story, but not a Disney-style family story, he clarified, “More like ‘The Sopranos’ kind of family story.”
Cameron talked about how ‘Avatar: The Seed Bearer’ will be the final chapter of the series if the film does not perform well at the box office. “The market will tell us in three months whether the series has been a success or a failure. If it fails that means, ‘Well, the story stops at the third installment and doesn’t go on endlessly.’ It doesn’t make a profit.”
Previously, Cameron had mentioned plans to shoot a fourth film, but it all depends on the performance of the market.
