Quentin Tarantino previously criticized comic book movies on a podcast, saying that comic book actors cannot be considered true movie stars.

He believes that “one of the results of Hollywood being Marvelized is that you have all the actors who have played Marvel characters becoming famous, but those actors are not really movie stars themselves. captain America is the star, or Thor is the star, it’s those characters that make those actors the stars.”

“I’m not the first person to express this opinion, this topic has been said countless times …… is that the characters in these series of films become the real stars.”

Quentin says, “I used to collect Marvel comics like crazy when I was a kid, and if these movies had been released when I was in my 20s, I would have been so happy and loved them so much.”

“I mean, they shouldn’t turn out to be the only films being made. They should be part of the whole world of cinema in addition to other films. But, you know, I’m almost 60 years old. So, yeah, I don’t feel that excited about them anymore.”

Similar to Quentin’s view on movie stars, Anthony Mackie, who played “Falcon” in the Marvel movies, said in an interview, “We don’t have movie stars anymore, like Anthony Mackie is not a star, but The ‘Falcon’ is the star. The development of superhero characters means the demise of cinema.”

“Movies are now being made for 16-year-olds, and the Chinese market …… The favorite movies you can think of that were with you growing up won’t be made today.”

In response to Quentin’s latest comments about Marvel movies, Simu Liu, who stars in the lead role of the Marvel movie ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’, posted a response, “If the only gatekeepers to measure movie stars were Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese, I would never have the chance to star in a movie that grossed over $400 million. I’m in awe of their filmmaking talent, they’re amazing directors. But they can’t point a finger at me, at anyone.”

“No movie studio is perfect. But I’m proud to be working with a company that is doing its part to add diversity to the screen, and Marvel has created heroes that inspire and motivate people in all regions of the world. I also love the ‘Golden Age’ of Hollywood …… but those days were ‘white’ as hell.”
