Emily Blunt recently said in an interview with ‘The Daily Telegraph’ that she was tired of scripts and roles labeled “Strong Female Lead”: “It’s the worst thing: you open a script and read It’s the worst thing: You open a script and you read ‘Strong Female Lead’. It made me roll my eyes and bored me so much that I quit on the spot. These characters are written to be particularly stoic, and you play ‘tough’ and say ‘tough’ lines the whole time.”

Talking about her new western drama ‘The English’, Blunt said the character is much more unexpected than the simple “Strong Female Lead” label, “She’s naive but not childish, which makes her She’s naive but not naïve, which makes her a powerful character that can’t be ignored.”
